Department & how it relates to the role A brand new location For the very first time, we’re bringing our central teams under one roof at our national centre - The Quadrant:MK in the heart of Milton Keynes. The new location has been designed to help us work more effectively, as well as offering unbeatable quality of life, with all the amenities of a major city in the heart of the countryside. This move will create a number of new opportunities for talented individuals to join Network Rail. This exciting role will be at the centre of developing medium to long term rail network planning for the industry. We’re looking for the next generation of analysts who can really make a difference by using the latest techniques to test new infrastructure schemes that will provide increased rail capacity to operate more trains and faster services. There is an opportunity for someone to join the team as a Timetable Assistant. The key responsibility of the role is to undertake analysis to feed into and contribute to a variety of industry planning processes such as the RUS programme and rail enhancement schemes. About the role (External) This role requires a mixture of analytical investigation and problem solving skills, and the ability to communicate outputs to a variety of audiences at all levels of the industry. The successful candidate will undertake performance and capacity analysis through a mixture of specialised computer modelling software and high-level data analysis. The candidate will also help develop new methodologies and processes to improve industry planning and analysis techniques. You will ensure that all analysis is undertaken to a high standard and demonstrate the ability to drive your development successfully through a comprehensive training programme in planning and analysis techniques and tools. Previous railway or planning experience is not essential, but a proven work or academic background using problem-solving and analytical skills is required. Do you have…? You will learn: * Advanced capacity and performance modelling and analysis techniques. * Signalling systems and railway operating procedures. * The factors that can affect network performance and how it is measured. * Railway industry planning and operating frameworks. * Project management lifecycle. * Understanding of how enhancement schemes develop through the investment process.
