Job Description
Department & how it relates to the role The Operations and Customer Services function operates the railway day-to-day. It delivers train paths, timetabling and train movements to enable safe performance and meet the needs of our customers. The function owns and manages our business relationships with the passenger and freight operators and external commercial stakeholders. The functional customer focused organisation provides clear ownership of operating responsibilities for all customers and stakeholders. The area delivery units are the building blocks of engineering and operations excellence. About the role (External) Ensuring the safe passage of trains is one of the most important jobs on the rail network and this is why we value our Signallers and the role they play in keeping Britain on the move. Signallers, as guardians of safety and good communications, are expected to maintain high standards. You need to be calm, methodical and analytical to ensure that all your decisions are made accurately after proper thought. You’ll be expected to take the lead in your duties, which means you have to be assertive and in command of many different situations. You will be the focal point of all railway operations in your specific area. Good communication is key to everything you’ll do. Do you have….? · High concentration levels? · The ability to work methodically, precisely and calmly at all times? · Excellent communication skills? · Good hearing and eyesight and normal colour perception? · A full, clean UK driving licence and your own transport? Are you….? · Of a mature nature with a conscientious outlook? · Able to able to assess situations and think through the outcome of your actions? · Able to work shifts including nights and weekends? · Over 18 years of age? Due to the sheer importance of the role, you’ll need to pass an initial assessment to be considered. You’ll then be required to complete a 9 week residential course at our state-of-the-art training centres in Leeds or Watford, before receiving more training within your appointed signal box. This position is safety critical and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing and a pre-employment medical. If you are shortlisted for this position, you will be required to take a compulsory communications test. Please note that these posts are Temporary for 12 months.
