Senior Project Engineer, Operational Telecommunications, Gloucester, Midlands



Talascend are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Project Engineer who has good experience of railway operational communications. We are working on behalf of the leading provider of engineering solutions to the UK rail network.



Essential Skills:

· Degree/HND/HNC qualified or equivalent in an appropriate discipline is desirable. Depth and breadth of experience will be taken into account where these qualifications have not been attained.

· A clear and detailed knowledge of Network Rail Operations and good technical knowledge of operational communications equipment.

· Practical use of Microsoft Office and formal documentation management and financial tools

· Good post graduate experience in a technical communications service delivery environment

· Knowledge of mainline railway environment highly desirable.

· Knowledge of system design and service delivery in a safety related or high reliability customer environment (e.g. Railway, emergency services, chemical industry) desirable

· First Degree or HND (or near equivalent) in Electronic Engineering or associated subject

· Membership of the IRSE or IEE highly desirable

· Chartered Engineer desirable



Desirable Skills:

· Experience required in :

· Transmission (SDH and PDH).

· Cables (Fibre and Copper).

· Concentrators

· Lineside operational communications.

· Immunisation.

· Earthing and bonding.

· Network Rail product approvals.

· Network Rail group and line standards.

· Monitoring, review and approvals.

· Competency Assessments

· Training (technical and safety)

· Network Rail Contractors Assurance Case requirements.

· PTS



Job Summary/List of Duties

· To manage small, multi-skilled technical teams responsible for undertaking all technical aspects of the preparation of telecommunications bid proposals and delivery of design packages for the Network Rail and Light Rail operational telecommunication markets

· To act as the company Engineering Representative for telecommunications systems to the Mainline and Light Rail Markets.

· To be responsible for the formation and day-to-day management of the technical delivery team, under the overall management of the Project Managers

· To undertake technical investigations of new products and new suppliers relevant to Mainline and Light Rail systems

· Management of a technical team to deliver a complete system/service design

· Analysis of complex technical requirements into work packages and management of technical teams in delivering solutions to these packages.

· Direction of day to day duties / main responsibilities for systems engineers

· Lead and direct day-to-day engineering activities relating to allocated projects.

· Act as single point of contact with client representatives on all matters relating to project engineering aspects.

· Support Project Management in all aspects relating to Project Engineering.

· Ensure compliance with client contractual and company procedures in the production of all engineering project Deliverables

· Co-ordinate all Project Engineering resource requirements with the Engineering Manager/Project Manager to ensure correct delivery of all Project Deliverables.

· Prepare/Manage all project related engineering documentation production and issue.

· Production of client format method statements for all design related trackside activities. Produced in sufficient time to enable client approval (normally 10 working days).

· Manage all design site surveys (pre and post installation) and produce reports (format to be agreed) as required by the associated contract.

· Produce detailed requirement verification documentation, which will describe how we will demonstrate compliance with the agreed requirements. Review of test and commissioning plans and specifications, which will include clear pass/fail criteria and testing methods and test equipment to be used.

· Detailed materials ordering lists (for all materials) backed up with recommended supplier information, procurement specifications and quotations.

· Overall project design support both on site and with the nominated client representatives. Acting as a single point of contact for all design related matters.

· Responsible for the delivery, quality, accuracy and sign off of all design documentation prior to issue to the PM or client.

· Responsible for ensuring all project engineering deliverables are met in conjunction with the Project Manager and Client requirements.

· Carry out regular design (recorded) reviews to demonstrate design compliance with project requirements.
