Job Description
Telecommunications, Rail Project Engineer, Birmingham Start: 31st Jan, End: 29th June Rate: up to £430 per day Talascend are recruiting for an experienced telecommunications Project Engineer with solid rail sector knowledge. The successful applicant will join our rail customer’s Infrastructure Projects Signalling Renewals team based in Birmingham where they have an established project office. This team delivers a portfolio of Signalling Renewals projects in the Midlands and North West areas, taking responsibility for the development, design and implementation of the work from initial remit to post commissioning hand over to maintenance colleagues. As a Telecommunications Engineer, the successful applicant will provide expertise to enable the telecommunications elements of the projects to succeed by assisting in the management of multi-functional and telecommunications Contract organisations. The subject areas will include railway operational telecommunications, Fibre Optic Networks/transmission and concentrator systems. Scope of Project / Assignment • To work with customer Project Management and Engineering teams to provide technical advice on Railway Telecoms Design and Construction issues. • To interpret technical standards and contractual clauses to provide support to the Project Engineering and Management teams. • Railway Telecommunications experience and knowledge required in Transmission systems and Operational Telecoms systems including concentrator equipment and Level Crossing Telecommunications experience. • To be predominantly office based to facilitate communication with Project Teams but have the skills to attend site for survey and information gathering. • To have the ability to manage a portfolio of projects requirements. • To write contractual documents. • To interpret Contractor queries, formulate replies and appreciate significance of such issues. Work Deliverables • To provide replies to Technical Queries. • To write Contractual documents as required. • To appraise design deliverables from the Contractor to assess compliance with Remit/standards and constructability. • To analyse Tender submissions. • To assess construction for adherence to design and best practice, ie undertake surveillance checks on installation. • To provide advice on Design and Construction re. the Telecommunications equipment
