Job Description

Role and responsibilities:

Performance modelling, assessment, verification and validation work to be done throughout the NL Upgrade Project.

Key Accountabilities:

* Manage design Change Control and interdisciplinary co-ordination that will affect the performance of the systems that are to be delivered for the Jubilee and Northern Line Upgrade (JUNP) Project. Ensure changes are costed and reported at the appropriate time.
* Assist the Principle Engineer in the delivery of the system performance that will be required for the JNUP Project which will in turn meet cost, schedule, quality and environmental targets of the project.
* Ensure the implementation of configuration management of performance/engineering documentation within the team as appropriate and to ensure the engineering information available to Operations and other parties is maintained to reflect ‘Latest Assured/As Built’ status.
* Ensure testing, commissioning and handover of all assets.
* Participate in ‘Value Engineering’ and ‘whole life asset management’ to provide the optimum design to deliver contract objectives.
* Manage business targets and subordinate staff’s performance, maintain personal development plans for self and others and provide engineering leadership and guidance while acting as a positive role model for the team as well as supporting their functional activities.
* Ensure all work complies with applicable legislation, HSE Railway Safety Principles and Guidance and all relevant standards, including work instructions, design guidelines etc. and ensure concessions are obtained as appropriate
* Support the Principle Engineer in managing the technical aspects and system interfaces and liaise with interested parties, about technical issues.
* Liaise with Operations to ensure any design synergies or conflicts are resolved in order to support any performance uplift for the line upgrade.
* Undertake design reviews and briefings with all team members to resolve technical issues to assist design interdisciplinary integration.
* Ensure design reviews and performance verification and validation are supported in accordance with the Project Plan(s).

General Safety Responsibilities:

The job holder must be committed to the Company’s General Safety Policy statement and the Company’s safety programme and be aware of his/her contribution to the programme, including requirement to monitor safety performance and compliance with the systems established to assist in maintaining high safety standards.

The job holder must be familiar with the safety legislation that is relevant to his/her post and comply with the necessary statutory requirements. These will include the Health & Safety at Work Act, Fire Precautions Act 1971 and associated regulations.

The jobholder will agree:

* To comply with all safety related rules, policies, directives and procedures authorised by senior management.
* To take reasonable care of oneself and of other people who may be affected by one’s actions and omissions at work.
* To co-operate with the management of the company, so far as is reasonable, regarding compliance with any statutory provisions.
* Not to interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety and welfare in pursuance of any relevant statutory provisions and comply with that Legislation which is specific to the post.

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential

* Understanding of the Journey Time Capability performance framework mandated in the PPP Contract;
* A good working knowledge of LUL infrastructure and train performance issues;
* Familiar with software database and modelling work, including SQL and Excel VBA;
* Education to degree level or equivalent qualification or extensive experience

Desirable

* A good understanding of LUL’s train service timetabling issues;
* Good understanding of Systems Engineering and performance demonstration; and
* Membership of a recognised engineering institution.
