We are currently recruiting for a Support Engineer on our NLR/ELR project to be based in London.

Your Role

As Support Engineer, you will be responsible for (a) resolving technical issues (affecting the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety performance), associated with the Class 378 Electrostar trains, (b) providing technical support to all key stake holders (customer, operator, operations), and (c) managing trains technical changes and the maintenance specifications.

Your Challenges
Manage Unit failures from identification and prioritisation of issues, root cause analysis, and then project management of solution development through the design authority (Mainline central engineering team during warranty and Services central engineering team afterwards)..
Monitor and improve the performance of the operations (a) to ensure that all maintenance activities are managed right, first time, with a focus on efficiency continuous improvement and (b) to minimise the impact of the maintenance operations on the operational performance of the fleet.
Monitor, manage and improve the technical performance of specific systems fitted on the trains (i.e.: Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) to enable the project to meet its performance and financial targets.
Manage and update (when changes occur) all technical documentation (including design information, manuals, BLESS life cycle cost calculations) for specific systems fitted on the trains
Provide technical support both externally (to customer, operator and other key stake holders) and internally (to all the project team and especially to the operations).

Qualifications

Your Experience and Qualifications

Understanding of the Railway Group Standards, ROGS and other railway specific engineering standards would be an advantage.
Reliability management tools eg. FRACAS,
Previous experience of Bombardier Transportation change management and product safety procedures and Electrostar train systems would be advantageous
Good project management skills to manage the on time implementation of solutions involving multiple and remote interfaces (for example central engineering functions based in Derby)
Past experience in engineering and / or in the railway industry (in depot operations) would be key advantages.
An understanding of modern rolling stock or similar technology would be a benefit
Full and clean driving license desirable
Flexibility of location in London area : start at an interim depot (Willesden) and then transfer to New Cross Gate (NXG) depot once fully operational (planned end of 2009).
Regular trips to Derby, suppliers facilities and other Bombardier Transportation Heavy Maintenance facilities.
On call availability during the introduction phase of the project to support technical assistance to a 24 hours, 7 days a week operation.
