Department & how it relates to the role

Strategic Sourcing is part of Contracts and Procurement which is responsible for the sourcing and purchasing of all works, goods and services for Network Rail, the commercial management of its contracts and supplier relationships and the physical supply chain which underpins our infrastructure projects. ‘Our vision is to be recognised as World Class in contracting and procurement by 2011 by internal customers, suppliers and external bodies’.

The role of Strategy Development Analyst is to support the development of Network Rail’s procurement strategy, through playing a key role in implementing a programme of change projects to deliver and embed robust practices.

Job Purpose

To support the development of Network Rail’s procurement strategy, underpinned by the development of category strategies. Assist the development and implementation of a programme of change projects to deliver robust strategy practices and category management excellence.

Key Accountabilities

1. To support the development and dissemination of robust strategy and category management best practices.

2. To provide support for the development of analytical models to support fact based decision making within category management.

3. To support the rollout, communication, application and embedding of category strategy tools, templates and processes.

4. To support the management and monitoring of the metrics to track, periodically review and report actual category strategy performance.

5. To assist the development of continuous improvement options and conclusions with constant reference to the business drivers involved.

6. To support the development and implementation of any proposals to the level agreed, assisting with the design and structuring of supporting processes, communications and any other activity required.

7. Assist with the drafting and finalisation of formal documentation, reports and supporting schedules, and undertake any other tasks and activities as required to support the effective functioning of the team.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• Highly numerate with strong analytical and financial skills
• Experience of contributing to the development and implementation of change initiatives
• Advanced level of Microsoft Office systems, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
• Good written and presentation skills including an ability to analyse and present complex information in a clear and concise format
• Good communication and influencing skills
• Ability to embrace and apply leading practice tools and techniques
• Proven customer service orientation and collaborative approach
• Degree trained or equivalent business experience

Desirable

• Large utility, contracting and/or engineering organisation experience
• Rail industry exposure
• Financial Management or Accountancy Qualification
• Trained/certified in project management with Microsoft Project experience
