Job Description Position Title: Staff Accountant II – Internal Reporting Department: Finance Reports To: Sr. Mgr. Internal Reporting Individual Contributor or Supervisor: Individual FLSA Status: Exempt Location: Kansas City, MO POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the monthly closing of the general ledger, supporting the monthly consolidated financial statement preparation process, account review/analysis and provide assistance in the management reporting function including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements. Also provides support to the strategic planning and financial reporting process. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Formal Education: Bachelor’s degree (Accounting or Finance discipline) CPA Preferred Experience: 2-3 years accounting experience, solid understanding of financial statements and GAAP Strong SAP and/or TM1 experience preferred. This would include experience in maintenance of GL Hierarchies (Cost Center and Account Mapping) Railroad or transportation accounting experience preferred Skills: Good computer skills, specifically MS Excel, and MS Office Suite, SAP and TM1 and strong database/financial reporting tools experience preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills Good interpersonal and relationship building skills – works with others at all levels in other departments Ability to make a decision related to materiality and understanding of when to raise a concern Ability to meet deadline-oriented tasks Job Duties: Support the monthly general ledger closing process, complete journal entries for assigned functions using the associated software systems Perform detailed account analysis in support/preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial reporting process. Complete assigned account reconciliations. Participates in management reporting; Adheres to SOX requirements (including primary contact for account reconciliation tracking for the department) Maintains general ledger and cost center account mapping. Support annual audit process. Identify, develop and implement process improvement opportunities. Assists in various research projects related to accounting issues.
