Investment Projects Buildings and Civils Operational Property West (OPW) are responsible for the delivery of projects involving the renewal, repair and enhancement of Station buildings and platforms, depots, train sheds, signal boxes and line side Buildings. These works are either delivered through a framework contract or tendered works. The geographical area is both LNW territory and Western territory.

Brief Vacancy Description

The role will be responsible for the on site management of construction activities which covers civils, building and M& E works to ensure the contractor delivers works that are constructed to programme and meet Network Rail standards for quality. A good understanding of construction safety and the delivery of works safely within a railway environment is essential. The applicant should have the ability to produce progress reports to a good standard that can be used by the project team.

The post will be based in either Birmingham or Manchester and the majority of the sites will be based between Birmingham, Manchester and the Northwest but there may be a requirement to visit other areas of the territory. There will be a requirement on occasions to work weekends and midweek nights depending on the nature of the works being undertaken.

Detailed External Job Description

Using your expertise as a Site Manager you will respond to technical queries, review method statements and maintain site records during all site inspections. Your strong relationship building and interpersonal skills will help you to communicate with Network Rail’s project managers, project engineers, quality surveyors, safety specialists and external contractors.

Your understanding of health and safety and construction within the railway will provide you with the confidence to assist the project team. Understanding the commercial issues that are involved in delivering a project will help you seek and identify areas of continuous improvement and proactive safety initiatives.

· A thorough understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental issues relating to construction?

CSCS/CITB scheme/NEBOSH certification?
