From multi-million pound schemes, such as the rejuvenation of King’s Cross station and the upgrade and expansion of Thameslink, to Europe’s largest civil engineering project - Crossrail, we are involved in some of the most ambitious and diverse ventures the UK has ever seen.

Signalling, Power and Communications (SP&C) is responsible for the delivery of renewals of Signalling, Telecoms, Electrification and Plant. The team also is responsible for the national European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) programme on behalf of the rail industry. Investments on signalling asset renewals alone are planned at over £500m per year over the next 10 years.

Brief Vacancy Description

Lead and Manage a team of 18 Signalling and Telecoms Rapid Response Technicians based at Singlewell Infrastructure Maintenance depot in North Kent.
Organise and direct infrastructure maintenance staff in maintenance, rapid response,installation and renewals work as appropriate, ensuring effective and productiveutilisation of resources to ensure that work is completed to plan and within allocated budget.
Responsibility for safety of the line and inspection regimes as specified in CTRL Standards.
Encourage and facilitate good working relationships and effective team working.
On call support is a requirement of the job.

Detailed External Job Description

Perform on-site supervision and check to ensure that minimum work standards are in line with infrastructure specifications and group standards. Ensure quality of work is not limited by these.
Provide planning information and ensure the effective planning and prioritisation of work to ensure that full use if made of available possessions.
Focus on delivery through preparing and implementing effective rosters, planning of materials and resources and resolving problems on site. Ensure only authorised work is carried out and that all work is appropriated correctly.
Decide details of and complete requests for the purchase or hire of labour, plant, materials and services needed to deliver the programmed works.
Assist the S&T Maintenance Engineer in controlling departmental costs through the effective Management, monitoring and review of manpower, overtime, test equipment, spares against programme and budget. Implement action required to remedy any shortfall.
Establish and promote productive and safe working practices. Determine and implement safe systems of work. Perform surveillance of safe systems and group standards and keep accurate surveillance records through regular on site visits and auditing.
Ensure that all staff have the necessary competence to carry out their duties as required by Safety Critical Work Regulations, undertake workplace assessment of staff competence and assist with analysis of training needs.
Ensure the health, safety and welfare of staff under his/her control.
Foster good communication and deliver communication/team briefings to staff in a constructive and positive way, listening to staff, resolving issues and providing feedback to the Maintenance management and engineering team
Manage the team to maintain a professional standard of delivery, where individuals fall short take swift pro-active action to understand, support and encourage high performance. A full understanding of the performance management system is essential.
Resolve technical problems and provide advice and guidance in infrastructure maintenance within the appropriate specific technical discipline.
Responsible for upkeep and day to day management of the depot.
Partake in the management on call system to support team members out of hours and manage incidents and failures.
You will be expected to work on all systems that you are competent, throughout the CTRL infrastructure
Qualifications and licences:

Management and technical experience within a Signalling and Telecoms working environment.
ONC / HNC in Electronics or an equivalent.
Must hold a current valid driving licence with no impending offences.
