Description The Sub Surface Railway (SSR) Upgrade is one of the most significant engineering programmes in the modernisation of London’s iconic Tube network. The aim of the programme is to deliver new trains as well as advanced signalling and control systems, in three phases of improvement, completing all work by late 2018.
So it’s a truly massive endeavour, and right now we’re assembling teams of the very best engineering talent in the key disciplines, to take on one of the most exciting challenges in the 147 year history of the London Underground.
Join the team in the role of Signalling Engineer and you will provide technical support to SSR Upgrade activities, acting in a ‘client engineer’ role across all phases of the project lifecycle including assessment and development of project scope through to commissioning and handover. Youll take the lead on scope and quality for assigned work packages, working with project management, project engineering and contracted design teams as the client engineer for the project. Key accountabilities:
* Provide input to, and technical overview of, signalling engineering activities.
* Manage input of other internal and external engineers, operators and project managers.
* Undertake tasks and lead work packages allocated by Head of Signalling or Lead Signalling Engineer.
* Evaluate, select and apply appropriate solutions to signalling related issues.
* Delivery of signalling work packages, including management of other staff as required to achieve this.
* Awareness of emerging technologies and their potential application to the railway.
* Maintain and develop close links with the system engineering team, safety team, operations team and other discipline engineers to ensure effective delivery of engineering or technical services.

* High level of integrity.
* Able to impact and influence when necessary.
* Developed ability to act on own initiative.
* Effective communicator: written and verbal one-to-one, in meetings and in presentations.
Technical Competencies:
* Analytical with a methodical approach to problem solving.
* Relevant structured training in signalling (LU signalling principles course, IST, AST, LU signalling conversion course, or equivalents).
* Current IRSE license in Designer or Principles Designer category.
* Customer-focused, emphasis on delivery to time, cost, quality and safety criteria.
* Computer literate in all Microsoft office applications with some knowledge and experience of the use of railway simulation tools. Use of requirement management tools is an advantage.
