Department & how it relates to the role



About the role (External)



Provide company technical direction to developments in the area of T&RS. Develop cost optimised engineering solutions to support today’s railway and the railway of the future.



1. Identify opportunities and manage innovation in the area of T&RS to facilitate the achievement of corporate objectives.

2. Lead the customer-focused development of equipment, systems and processes to agreed cost, time and quality. Confirm the business case remains robust throughout developments.

3. Provide input to the development of T&RS policy and to the development and management of T&RS standards, specifications and engineering competence requirements.

4. Maintain close liaison with manufacturers who wish to supply equipment to the railway. Influence the development of technology to meet company needs. Provide technical input to acceptance processes.

5. Provide expert technical advice on T&RS and associated equipment, systems and processes to the rest of the organisation and to external bodies.

6. Provide expert technical input to technical investigations and the management of resulting recommendations.

7. Provide support to corporate assurance processes.

8. Manage the testing and commissioning of rail vehicles and manage the associated testing facilities.



Essential



· Incorporated Engineer, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of learning

· Degree in a relevant subject

· Substantial T&RS engineering experience in a project or maintenance environment

· Knowledge of policies and standards relating to T&RS

· Knowledge of the engineering safety management and risk assessment processes

· Holds relevant professional license or capable of achieving within reasonable time-scales

· Understanding of project management and financial analysis principles

· Chartered Engineer
