Job Description
Role Title: Senior QS (Rail) Brief overview For Rail contracts, implement commercial and procurement management and reporting systems and procedures. Evaluate and manage all contractual risks and of the role and work with Project Managers to maximise commercial benefits of all responsible contracts. With particular focus on procurement, risk minimisation, pricing of project: variations and day-to-day management of contracts to the value of c£10 million. Accountabilities • Implement and manage all post contract commercial and procurement systems and procedures. • Pro-actively work with Business Development Managers to secure contracts. • Responsible for risk management, commencing with review of contract documentation. • Work with senior managers to plan, forecast and subsequently report project commercial performance. • Consolidate individual contract reports into monthly management accounts, working with finance department. • Forecast and manage cash flow through submission and agreement of applications and final accounts. • Work with senior management to maximise commercial benefit of all contracts and effectively manage contract variations. • Ensure the necessary expertise is available to support dispute management efforts with clients and sub-contractors. • Ensure commercial aspects of sub-contract accounts are managed from procurement to interim and final account agreement. Support development of Sub-Contractor and Major Supplier Contract Agreements. • Maintain functional (commercial) communications with Group. Critical Success Factors Regarded as: • Highly capable and professional manager who ensures contract targets and KPIs are exceeded. • Credible with all stakeholders, adding measurable value to achievement of objectives Can demonstrate success in: • Effective contract management • Building strong and positive relationships with internal and external contacts (customers & suppliers) and adopting a Knowledge & key skills Essential: • A degree qualified and experienced Quantity Surveyor, ideally Chartered, • A self starter with at least 5yrs previous experience of civil engineering and/or utility contracting. • Customer aware and innovative, capable of maximising contract benefits for mutual and long term benefit. • Track record of exceeding business targets and KPIs. • Ability to identify and resolve problems at an early stage. • Accurate with good attention to detail and highly organised. • A good negotiator and communicator Desirable • Experience of fostering good client relationships • • IT literate and experienced in working with MS Office Applications and Cost Control systems (e.g. Siteman). • Experience of fixed cost, cost reimbursable, RICS or ICE (Institute of Civil Engineering), design and construct and fixed price contracts.
