Job Description

Department & how it relates to the role

The Crossrail project aims to deliver 24 trains an hour through 23km of new subsurface railway infrastructure under central London, continuing outwards to the east and west over 76km of some of the most congested and complex rail infrastructure in the UK. The Crossrail project is jointly sponsored by the Department for Transport (DfT) and Transport for London (TfL) and is being developed via a joint-venture company Cross London Rail Links (CLRL). A significant amount of work is required to Network Rail’s surface network and the interfaces between Network Rail and CLRL, DfT & TfL are considerable.

About the role (External)

This is an opportunity to work with the latest signalling technology to put in place design solutions that will help create a world class rail infrastructure for the twenty-first century. You’ll be part of Network Rail’s major project to integrate Crossrail with the national rail network, whilst keeping the network fully operational.

As a Senior Project Engineer on Crossrail / Reading Station Area Re-development, first and foremost, you’ll care about good design. You’ll work alongside our design houses to ensure their designs will work in practice. You’ll also make sure designs provide all the functionality required by our sponsors who include Crossrail, TfL and RfL. All this is to be achieved while providing value for money, and meeting all relevant standards.

By joining us now, you’ll be part of taking a major project from design to completion.

You’ll be working with cutting edge technology, which will include European Train Control System (ETCS) and Automatic Train Operation (ATO). Not only that, but the work will provide plenty of challenge, whether making sure our new technology interfaces with existing signalling, or that new equipment is configured optimally, enabling a high frequency train service to run.

Do you have….?

· Substantial UK Mainline signalling engineering experience?
· Cab signalling experience, i.e. ERTMS/ETCS, ATO?
· In depth knowledge of signalling principles?
· A relevant qualification? We’ll expect you to already have chartered status or be working towards it.
· Experience in large multi-discipline rail projects, ideally having worked on all stages of the project lifecycle?
· Experience of working to RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety)?
· An appreciation of the product approval process?

Are you….?

Innovative? You’ll challenge the way things are done, to ensure we design the best possible solutions and you’ll make sure we get the most out of new technology.
Able to deal with pressure? You’ll sometimes be expected to deliver to tight timescales.
A clear communicator, who’s able to build successful working relationships and stand your ground when necessary?
