Department Description A newly formed multi-disciplinary design team within the Investment Projects Buildings & Civils (IP B&C) Building Design Group. The Senior Building Surveyor will lead a team of 17 consisting of Building Surveyors, Architectural Technologists, Design Engineers and Team Organiser in providing a cost effective design service for projects delivered by IP B&C. These projects will range from major station and depot renewal projects to small retail enhancement schemes. The team will initially be based at London Waterloo with in the future a satellite office in Swindon. Brief Vacancy Description This vacancy is for a Senior Building Surveyor to lead a new multi-disciplinary design office based at London Waterloo providing a design service from feasibility to detailed design for Network Rail’s Investment Projects property projects. Detailed External Job Description This vacancy based at London Waterloo is for a Senior Building Surveyor to lead the newly established South office of the Network Rail Building Design Group Operational Propertry design team. Leading a team of 17 consisting of Building Surveyors, Architectural Technologists, Design Engineers and Team Organiser in providing a cost effective national design service for projects delivered by Network Rails Investment Projects. These projects will range from major station and depot renewal projects to small retail enhancement schemes. The successful candidate will lead and manage a cost effective multi-disciplinary design consultancy service to internal and external clients and to develop and maintain design standards that meet company needs. They will provide multi-disciplinary design consultancy for external clients on complex schemes and cost effective management of appointed architecture and design consultants to meet Network Rail objectives. The Key Accountabilities of the role are as follows; · To lead and direct the multi-disciplinary design (and extended multi-disciplinary designers) resources to serve the business. · To prepare and develop concept, feasibility and detailed design proposals for complex schemes to meet business objectives. · To lead a cost effective, fit for purpose and value for money multi-disciplinary design service to internal and external clients ensuring designs are in accordance with efficiency targets. · To identify and construct effective ‘corporate’ design standards for new build and renewals works having due regard to the particular requirements of company standards and policies and heritage designations where these apply. · To proactively promulgate and participate in the membership of an integrated design and construction teams in the delivery of property work. · To liaise and consult with external authorities in order to secure smooth and successful consents and approvals in respect of complex schemes. · To advise on the regularly updated call-off contract lists of architectural and design consultants and contractors and to act as informed buyers in their procurement and management. · To review third-party design proposals for works to Network Rail’s assets. Essential · Degree (or equivalent) in relevant discipline · Corporate membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. MIOB, ICE, RICS) · Thorough knowledge of statutory and/or rail industry requirements for building works · Effective communications skills and an understanding of customer requirements and objectives · Conversant with Building Regulations, Planning and Consents processes
