Using your experience as a Scheme Project Manager you will help to enhance Network Rail’s reputation as a reliable deliverer of major capital projects.

SCHEME PROJECT MANAGER – JOB DESRCIPTION

INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS – LONDON BRIDGE (KO2) THAMESLINK

The Role

Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Scheme Project Manager (SPM) will be responsible for providing contract / project management support for one of the major structures (value circa £50), which forms part of the London Bridge (KO2) project. The structures projects consist of new railway viaducts, embankments, existing under-bridge strengthening / reconstruction, retaining wall and box culvert construction. The SPM will be responsible for delivering a contract or an element (circa £10m-15m) in support of the project manager. The role will be based at James Forbes House, London. The role will involve managing schemes from outline design, through implementation and close out. The SPM duties will typically include:

• Assisting with tender document preparation, tender evaluation and supplier selection.
• Assisting with establishing, monitoring and amending the project programme.
• Chairing contractor and consultant progress meetings.
• Liaison and coordination with the NR site management staff
• Coordinating team tasks with key members such as for commercial, planning, engineering, health, safety, quality and the environment support.
• Liaison with project support teams, internal departments, the sponsor and engineering teams including reporting on progress, key risks and issues.
• Reviewing and establish management action plans for dealing with project risks and issues.
• Assisting with evaluating contract changes.


Key Characteristics

* Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Be computer literate.
* Be able to work well under pressure and within a team environment.
* Will be able to analyse problems, establish solutions and make recommendations for action.
* Ideally have attained a construction related HNC, Diploma or Degree.
* Have at least 3 years experience within the construction industry or within a project management environment

About the role (External)

As a Scheme Project Manager you will support the Project Manager in delivering a variety of projects, to achieve this you will liaise closely with senior management colleagues and external contractors and consultants. You will help to co-ordinate the commissioning, design and construction through to safety, finance and testing; your involvement will touch on all aspects of the project life cycle and allow you to develop and strengthen your project management capabilities.

It’s not necessary for you to have rail industry experience. In fact, what will set you apart is your motivation and natural flair for dealing with people at all levels.

• A degree, HNC or professional qualification in construction or engineering?
• Good leadership and commercial skills?
• Project management experience within a large construction environment?
• Design management experience within construction?

• A Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management or other professional body?
