Tasks

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Road Foreman is responsible primarily for managing and coordinating operational activities, including Zone
I train and engine service crews, yardmasters, and administrative functions to ensure the safe and efficient
operation of trains in a specific area…Primary responsibilities include: provide leadership, mentoring, guidance
to locomotive engineers and conductors; oversee operations in compliance with Operating Rules and FRA
Regulations; manage the T&E crew base and ensure that all bulletins, equipment, postings, etc. adhere to labor,
federal and Amtrak regulations; monitor employees for compliance with policies and operating practices; take
action for non-compliance issues, perform remittance audits; manage employees and train operations to
improve OTP and make recommendations to improve performance; respond to service disruptions within area
of responsibility; handle promptly and provide written and oral reports. Manage and oversee locomotive
engineer certification requirements; conduct efficiency tests for locomotive engineers and trainmen; ensure
compliance and maintain employee records; communicate with carrier railroad managers regarding territory
operations. Conduct annual performance reviews for crew base employees.

EDUCATION: Candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Business or related field; or equivalent training, and/or education.
WORK EXPERIENCE: The incumbent must be Certified Class I Train Service Engineer. The incumbent must have minimum of two years operating experience, with no violations, as described in CFR 49, Part 240.117, as Train Service Engineer and/or as Road Foreman.
PREFERRED: Candidates with DSLE qualifications.
COMMUNICATION & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Excellent written and verbal communications.
TRAVEL: Will be required
