Job Description
Department & how it relates to the role About the role (External) Provide specialist engineering design inputs to projects, delivering new or modified rail vehicles. 1. Provide specialist engineering designs (including CAD drawings), installation or commissioning instructions to projects to procure or modify rail vehicles associated with Network Rail sponsored or managed projects. 2. Validate specialist engineering designs, produced by other stakeholders, for projects to procure or modify rail vehicles associated with Network Rail sponsored or managed projects. 3. Report on the progress of designs, installations or commissioning associated with rail vehicles in conjunction with Network Rail sponsored or managed projects. 4. Carry out engineering and business analysis and estimating to support any recommendations made on options for the procurement or modification of rail vehicles. 5. Provide input in to the development of the engineering policy for rail vehicle design and other supporting engineering documents. 6. Develop new engineering documents and drawings necessary to support the procurement or modification of rail vehicles. 7. Support the provision of engineering input to suppliers and other external organisations working on specific projects so that all rail vehicle engineering work complies with Network Rail’s requirements. Essential • Incorporated Engineer • Experience in CAD design and using Solid Edge, AutoCAD or MicroStation packages • Sound knowledge of rail vehicle engineering, either electrical or mechanical Desirable • Chartered Engineer • Knowledge of Network Rail and industry rail vehicles • Knowledge of Ansys or Orcad software packages
