Job Description

Our Client, a leading Rail Infrastructure provider, within Projects, Track Renewals and Rail Services, are looking to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor, to work on its prestigious projects in London.

Overview of the Project / Position
Construction of works on the controlled infrastructure as part on the East London Line Project. The works will be known as West Croydon, Crystal Palace & South Croydon on Network Works. Network Rail will be the Contracting Authority on behalf of Transport for London who are the Primary Funding Authority together with Network Rail. The project is part of the works necessary for the new East London Line Overground Railway.

The West Croydon, Crystal Palace & South Croydon Work comprises the provision of:
New island platform & platform extensions
Various civil work including the provision of a new mess and rest room.
P/Way Plain line & renewals
Track, foul and surface water drainage
New, replacement and relocation of signalling & modifications to interlocking & SCC panels
New and modified telephone concentrators, CCTV, DOO & DNO works
Cable, troughing and UTX works
Points heaters and power supplies

Key responsibilities are:
Operate to the highest professional standards in all areas, with a key emphasis on the systems for contract management and cost monitoring. Maintain procedures and performance measures to ensure effective contract and cost control for all works.
Identify areas of contractual risk and opportunities within the spectrum of options available.
Take responsibility for preparing monthly reports for the Commercial Director and for the Project Management Board
Ensure timely production of final accounts, contractual liabilities and accruals and project budget out-turns to the highest financial and contractual standards and to the satisfaction of the auditor
Provide information for the preparation of reports to evaluate contract claims from sub-contractors and any other third parties
Maintain a professional relationship with functional managers and supervisors and support service staff within the project and the company and in the external maintenance and construction market to ensure best contract management practice is developed and adhered to within the business.
Provide training and coaching, guidance and support to other commercial staff as may be required.

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Chartered surveyor (MRICS)
5 years experience in a senior QS role
Surveying degree desirable.

Other information
Previous experience in either an M&EE or Rail background is essential, as is working on projects of a value of £20 million+.
Will be responsible for a Cost Engineer and a Quantity Surveyor and be responsible to the Project Director.
