Job Description
Department & how it relates to the role To manage design and/or construction activities for allocated projects. Managing so that appropriate engineering standards are used in relation to design and/or construction on allocated projects within the national programme with compliance to the requirements of the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), relevant legislation, Group and company standards, and Network Rail procedures. About the role (External) Asset Management (Civil & Property Delivery) is seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Civils/Building to join the multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the civil/Building engineering design and construction aspects of projects and will ensure that all civil engineering designs can be safely constructed and that all site work is undertaken safely. For the successful candidate the role will include the review and comment on feasibility studies and technical forms for scheme designs on behalf of Network Rail for civil/Building engineering works and ensuring compliance with legislation and civil/ Building engineering standards and procedures for design and construction. The Project Engineer will also provide engineering advice to the Designated Project Engineer on civil/Building engineering issues, design and construction activities and site supervision. You will be required to manage the civil/Building engineering approvals process, respond to technical queries and review high risk work plans. In addition you will liaise with external contractors including Designers, internal Development and Project Managers and scheme Sponsors. You will also undertake the role of Designated Project Engineer on some projects. The successful candidate will be experienced in both design and construction of civil / Building engineering infrastructure, preferably within multidisciplinary projects and also within a railway industry environment plus hold a technical qualification to HNC/HND or GNVQ level in civil or structural engineering. Membership of a relevant professional institution is would be considered an advantage as would experience of working on projects within a railway environment.
