Job Description
Senior Project Engineer (Signalling and Electrification), Croydon Contract - Up to £450 per day until 31/03/2012 Job Description: We are looking to appoint an experienced signalling project engineer to oversee the post commissioning activities and close out of Phase 1 of East Kent resignalling. This will lead into delivery and commissioning of the new signalling system. This is a large multi-disciplinary project so there is a challenging and varied range of work for the successful candidate to undertake. The Wessex, Sussex & Kent team are part of the Signalling & Electrification Programme within the Investment Projects organisation. The team delivers renewals and upgrade works across the area, as well as the national SCADA and the Cambrian ERTMS projects. The Croydon team are part of this team and are delivering Phases 1 & 2 of East Kent Resignalling. The main purpose of the role will be to investigate issues raised by the maintenance and operations organisations, and develop packages of work to resolve them. Additionally, the candidate is responsible for overseeing the handback of the assets into maintenance and completion of project records. The candidate should have good knowledge of SSI, VDU workstations, axle counters, TI track circuits, HW point machines, signalling power supplies and level crossings. The individual should also have PTS. A Senior Project Engineer is required to work in the team based at Croydon. The individual should have experience of delivering multi-disciplinary re-signalling schemes from a Signal Engineering perspective. Additionally the individual should have excellent communication skills in order to manage the interdisciplinary issues associated with signalling schemes. The detailed job description of a Senior Project Engineer can be summarised as follows: - 1. Implement our systems and procedures to deliver a cost effective, high quality and safe approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects. Review all relevant legislation and liaise with relevant governmental departments. 2. Monitor the competence of all Project Engineers working on projects within the functional discipline and provide functional guidance, direction and briefing. 3. Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects and check whether all design and construction contracts include reference to appropriate Railway Group and our Company standards applicable to their discipline. 4. Apply relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to all projects and check whether the environmental aspects of all projects are managed in accordance with our Environmental Policy. 5. Monitor all projects for compliance with Railway Group and our Company standards and project control procedures. 6. Advise project and programme management in respect of all construction activities, testing and commissioning, and site supervision. Monitor whether the design and construction elements meet the requirements of legislation, including construction, design management (CDM) regulations. 7. Assure whether contractors’ design, construction and specialist personnel are competent. 8. Undertake reviews of design and construction activities. Arrange audits of contractors to monitor whether safety and quality of design, construction testing and commissioning and management systems are adequate. 9. Undertake the duties of Designated Project Engineer / Project Engineer. 10. Undertake accident investigations when remitted to by the relevant designated competent person.
