Job Description

Department Description

Network Rail is at the heart of revitalising Britain’s railway. Over the next five years, we intend to invest £34.6 billion on improving and developing the rail network. From multi-million pound schemes, such as the rejuvenation of King’s Cross station and the upgrade and expansion of Thameslink, to Europe’s largest civil engineering project - Crossrail, we are involved in some of the most ambitious and diverse ventures the UK has ever seen. Working with us you’ll benefit from state-of-the-art training and a second-to-none support network, all in a company with an annual turnover that equals those within the top 5 of the FTSE 100.

Brief Vacancy Description

Your role as a Principal Project Planner within Kingscross will be delivery focused as you will be supporting and providing solution for the Project Managers, working on highly complex programmes of work with tight deadlines.

King’s Cross station is at the heart of the busiest transport interchange in the country. Over 47 million people use the station every year, and this is expected to rise by a further 10 million within a decade. The Kings Cross Station Development Programme will be a major challenge, delivering a world class station concourse and environment at the hub of London’s most important transport interchange. The scheme must be delivered before the Olympics in 2012 and will involve working closely with a range of critical construction partners, stakeholders and customers. It is a great opportunity to further enhance Network Rail’s reputation as a reliable deliverer of major capital projects and to be part of the creation of a new London landmark building.

Detailed External Job Description

As an experienced Principal Project Planner it will be your responsibility to lead the planning function within the project team, providing guidance and direction to project planners, and assuring quality and consistency of all planning and associated reports.

You will review and co-ordinate the work of your staff to ensure the correct planning support is provided to the project teams with the programme. You will also be asked to provide reports on actual project performances which will be monitored against an in-year plan. This will involve summarising project outcomes by forecasting key milestone and critical path issues to members of the team, highlighting the impact of such issues and providing recommendations for corrective solutions.

It’s not necessary for you to have rail industry experience. In fact, what will set you apart is your motivation and natural flair for dealing with people at all levels.
