Job Description

Department & how it relates to the role

King’s Cross station is at the heart of the busiest transport interchange in the country. Over 47 million people use the station every year, and this is expected to rise by a further 10 million within a decade. The Kings Cross Station Development Programme will be a major challenge, delivering a world class station concourse and environment at the hub of London’s most important transport interchange. The scheme must be delivered before the Olympics in 2012 and will involve working closely with a range of critical construction partners, stakeholders and customers. It is a great opportunity to further enhance Network Rail’s reputation as a reliable deliverer of major capital projects and to be part of the creation of a new London landmark building.

About the role (External)

To lead the planning function within national programme team, providing guidance and direction to other planners, monitoring for quality and consistency of all planning and associated reporting. To generate national input to Investment plan as part of Business Planning process and acts as principle communication point between Business Planning function and national programme team.

• Provide leadership and direction to planners in national and Territory teams.
• Monitor so that planning activity within programme is undertaken to acceptable quality standards and consistent with national standards.
• Manage so that all plans are integrated into Territory and national plans.
• Review resource availability to support plans and take action to address resource shortfalls and risks to delivery.
• Lead the compilation of cost and resource forecast data in support of the business plan.
• Manage so that planning resources are deployed to best effect within the programme team.
• Manage the delivery of a high service standard to support the national programme/Territory teams.

* Comply with the Investment Competence Framework.

Essential

• Membership of a relevant professional body and/or educated to degree level
• Relevant successful experience in the management, planning and delivery of major construction and engineering projects
• A comprehensive knowledge of programme and project controls processes and systems

Desirable

Experience of planning within the railway environment
