Job Description

Department & how it relates to the role

The Operations and Customer Services function operates the railway day-to-day. It delivers train paths, timetabling and train movements to enable safe performance and meet the needs of our customers.

The function owns and manages our business relationships with the passenger and freight operators and external commercial stakeholders. The functional customer focused organisation provides clear ownership of operating responsibilities for all customers and stakeholders. The area delivery units are the building blocks of engineering and operations excellence. They enable Network Rail to manage the customer and stakeholder relationships – from freight operators to operators of long-distance passenger services, commuter and rural franchises and passenger transport executives on an efficient and consistent basis within a single integrated function.

About the role (External)

1. Deliver planning and analysis outputs to appropriate quality standards in line with the

Operational Planning & Performance framework for delivery and recognised best practise

2. Undertake the development of innovative solutions to complex capacity analysis and

optimisation problems using appropriate tools and techniques and within the Operational

Planning & Performance framework for delivery

3. Support the team in managing relationships with internal and external customers including

making presentations and briefings as required

4. Accountable for the effective development and application of operational planning and

analysis skills to maintain quality standards, achieve team targets and develop future team

capability

5. Engage in and contribute towards new and innovative ways of working such that Operational

Planning needs are understood and delivered

6. Undertake the role in a way that is consistent with, and reinforces, Network Rail’s values

Essential

• Good analytical skills
• Proven ability to engage with customers, and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders
• Proven experience in delivering to agreed timelines and standards

Desirable

• Knowledge of planning and analysis tools and techniques
