Department Description

The Safety and Compliance function sets risk based occupational health and safety policies and help to embed these throughout the business so that they act as truly effective controls. The Occupational Health and Safety department, within Safety and Compliance function has a team of Occupational Health and Safety specialists that are Network Rails specialist resource for the development, production and review of company wide occupational health and safety policies and standards. The team provide specialist support relating to policy, standards and training and wider occupational health and safety issues.

To deliver occupational health support to Network Rail personnel in the prevention of illness, disease and injury arising from work activity, and the promotion of the health, safety and wellbeing of all employees.

To deliver occupational health support to Network Rail personnel in the prevention of illness, disease and injury arising from work activity, and the promotion of the health, safety and wellbeing of all employees.

Key accountabilities

Support line managers through the provision of advice on occupational health related problems affecting recruitment, work and rehabilitation through the exercise of clinical judgement in relation to standards and other aspects of fitness to work.
Actively participate in the development and delivery of health promotion and education initiatives.
Develop and present training material, presentations and briefings on health related topics, e.g attendance management, health and wellbeing and OH services.
Provide advice to line managers on the interpretation of, and compliance with, the health related aspects of health and safety legislation and guidance.
Develop effective working relationships with managers, and with internal and external stakeholders, to promote occupational health support services.
To deliver the services and support, as defined, taking into account the Nursing Midwifery Council Scope of Professional Practice and Code of Professional Conduct.

Essential Job skills, experience and qualifications for the post are:

Registered General Nurse
Occupational Health Diploma/ Degree or currently working towards qualification
Proven experience in occupational health and safety working for a large multi -disciplined organisation.
Experience in an industrial environment.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
Experience and skill in rehabilitation and disability management
First line counselling skills
Quality orientation and attention to detail
Proven problem solving skills
Good presentation skills
MS Office
Drive and self motivated
