This includes communication with all employees, national and local government, the media, external liaison, and Network Rail’s members. The function is also responsible for managing the brand and visual image of Network Rail. Our Media Relations team promotes, defends and explains the vision and actions of Network Rail, engaging stakeholders and enhancing the companys corporate reputation. We do this by speaking positively and persuasively to stakeholders – especially opinion formers and public at large – through the local, regional, national and international media, and focusing on the media, monitoring and setting the news agenda and building productive working relationships. We work in tandem with our colleagues in Government & Corporate Affairs to ensure consistency of messages and effectiveness of delivery, and reach out to all sections of the business to understand their work, challenges and successes to inform media activity. As one of our Media Relations Managers you will play a key role; developing, implementing and co-coordinating a media strategy to promote our initiatives and protect our interests

About the role (External)

You’ll use your expert relationship building skills to maintain regular contact with editors and journalists, ensuring they understand our role and are aware of key stories. Clarifying and correcting misconceptions is key to this role – to this end you’ll monitor media comment and prepare suitable responses aimed at clarifying / correcting any misconceptions. Monitor the effectiveness of press coverage for Network Rail, taking corrective action where necessary.
