We are looking for a Materials Handler to work on the NLR/ELR project in London based at the New Cross Gate depot.

Your Role

In this role you will help enable maximum train availability to our customers, and be responsible for: (a) ensuring depot-held materials, spares and tools are always available to the Production team at the time and location needed; (b) accurate and efficient receipting, processing, storage and management of train materials at the depot; (c) supporting the Materials Controller in the identification, ordering and replenishment of consumables and repairable materials deficiencies; (d) identifying and assisting in the delivery of logistics process improvements.

Your Challenges
Manage depot materials including storage and distribution of stock in a safe manner - around warehouse, out-stores and point-of-use containers - monitoring and reporting consumption.
Receive materials deliveries from suppliers, loading and unloading deliveries (with and without forks) whilst correctly and accurately accounting for items.
Plan for maintenance events in conjunction with the Materials Controller, arranging material availability for Production team.
Develop improved processes for depot logistics, ensuring safe practices throughout.

Qualifications

Your Experience and Qualifications
Understanding of materials management processes required. Understanding/ exposure of the engineering industry and associated processes preferable. Knowledge of governance and guidelines (e.g. the Railway Group Standards) an advantage.
Numeracy skills. Formal qualifications in logistics-related areas considered an advantage.
Full driving license essential.
Licensed operative for counter-balanced fork lift & reach truck pallet loader, with relevant expertise/re-qualification in the last 3 years essential.
HGV license considered an advantage.
Past expertise in warehousing and / or in the railway industry (in depot operations) would be key advantage.
An understanding of modern rolling stock or similar technology would be a benefit.
MS Windows/Office experience required for training to use materials management tools (SAP, Maximo).
Flexibility of location in London area: New Cross Gate (NXG) depot when fully operational.
Occasional trips to off-site storage facility (London area) to assist in stock movement and audit, suppliers facilities and other BT Heavy Maintenance facilities.
The work pattern will be on a rostered shift basis.
The Materials Handler function is occasionally a physically demanding task. A PTS-standard medical will be required, and there is a stringent drugs & alcohol rail policy.
