Job Description
Department & how it relates to the role To recommend and deploy the appropriate use of technologies into the production environment. To provide consultancy into new projects so that the concurrency is maintained and that all integration issues are considered and addressed, and to verify that there is ongoing availability of all infrastructure architecture components. About the role (External) Key Accountabilities 1. Identify and plan upgrades that impact on any area of the systems infrastructure. 2. Ratify the maintenance and upgrade to the environment and the currency of software, hardware and standards. 3. Provide technical architecture and infrastructure consultancy to IM projects as required. 4. Review and quality check System Integrator proposals for their technical content in relation to IT infrastructure / architecture projects. 5. Confirm that the System Integrator’s non-production and Network Rail’s production environment mirror each other and are aligned. 6. Identify opportunities for the implementation of technical improvements that add value to the business through achievement of better, faster, cheaper infrastructure. 7. Work in conjunction with approved suppliers to understand product road mapping and impact of end of life products to provide seamless integration into the environment. Key involvement in the infrastructure design and architecture of all of the following -: Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008R2 Sharepoint 2007, 2010 SQL server 2005, 2008 Virtualization Clustering Office Communication Server 2007R2 System Centre Operations Manager 2007R2 Exchange 2007 ISA 2006 Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications Extensive experience in designing and implementing Microsoft enterprise IT architecture solutions Demonstrable experience with Active Directory in an architecture role. Experience of Active Directory migrations. In depth knowledge of DHCP, DNS, GPO, WINS. Essential • Expert in operating systems (e.g. MS Windows, Unix, Cisco IOS) • Expert in hardware platforms and peripheral technologies (e.g. Desktop, Servers, SAN) • Expert in network technologies • Expert in middleware • Expert in messaging • Expert in performance and capacity planning • Proficient in databases • Familiar in programming languages • Familiar in configuration management • Proficient in infrastructure upgrade planning Desirable • Significant experience in an infrastructure design background • MCSE • CCSE & CCIE • Websphere • WMQ
