Department & how it relates to the role



About the role (External)



Lead the asset management process for Traction Power Design, creating value and sustainable delivery of corporate targets. Direct the provision of key E&P asset data and modelling for engineering support to the business.



· Direct the traction power design for engineering input to the development of the renewal, enhancement focussed on achieving Network Rail’s goals.

· Support the translation of standards, operational requirements and funds to allocate clear electrical power performance asset targets for delivery teams, to strategic route section (SRS) level.

· Work with members of other Asset Management groups to jointly optimise engineering activity across the railway infrastructure system.

· Work closely with and influence external bodies / groups to jointly optimise traction power solutions for the railway infrastructure, eg ORR, DfT, RSSB, ATOC

· To improve the Electrical safety of our electrical power and fixed assets by implementing company wide custodianship of protection settings, earthing hot site registers, and key asset data / records eg MFDs, Isolation diagrams, Sectional diagrams, Operational G38 diagrams

· Lead the provision of electrical power input to the route planning process.

· Direct the determination of the technical requirements necessary to comply with external and company standards. Where appropriate, propose challenges to standards and make sure appropriate controls are in place to manage agreed non-compliances.

· Direct the specification of acceptance criteria for traction power, including design approval, acceptance of equipment and hand back to maintenance as appropriate. Where necessary make sure acceptance processes are being discharged.

· Provide professional leadership to engineers involved in renewals and enhancements activities in relation to traction power design.

· Manage the provision of a comprehensive national electrical power critical asset data eg MFDs, Protection Settings, Earthing Hot Site Register.

· Manage the arrangements for technical briefing of AM and IP Engineers in order that the purpose, as well as the content, of standards, specifications, etc. is understood in relation to traction power design.

· Manage the arrangements for the review and approval of derogations and non-compliances to standards under a delegated authority framework in relation to traction power design.

· Manage the collation, review and progression of potential improvement to standards from delivery engineers; provide feedback to the originators in relation to traction power design.

· Provide electrical power engineering input to the development of asset policies for traction power design.

· Manage the provision of nationally consistent advice and guidance to the delivery organisations in the production of business focussed renewals / enhancement proposals.



Essential



· Chartered Engineer

· Broad and extensive electrical power and fixed plant engineering experience, particularly related to renewals and enhancements

· A detailed understanding of the maintenance of electrical power and fixed plant assets

· A sound knowledge of technical, safety and performance standards relating to electrical power and fixed plant engineering

· Proven ability to manage engineering activities in a business environment

· Experience in the integration of complex engineering systems

· Excellent communication with demonstrable delivery of leadership and behavioural change within a large organisation



Desirable



· Relevant management qualification

· Experience of managing a large, geographically dispersed team

· An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques
