Department Description Network Rail is at the heart of revitalising Britain’s railways. Over the next five years, we intend to invest £34.6 billion on improving and developing the rail network. Network Development is a recently created function to pull together, into one function, the sponsorship of Enhancement projects in order to improve consistency and quality of output. As a consequence a dedicated finance team is being put together to with the responsibility of partnering this vital function as it sets out to achieve its objectives. Brief Vacancy Description The successful candidate will provide essential input into the future direction of Network Development as the function seeks to fill gaps in its processes to enable better decision making and sponsorship of projects. As well as supporting Network Development, the individual will have primary responsibility for provision of financial analysis and support to the Network Rail Planning team. The key accountabilities for the role are: 1. Support the function in achieving their objectives and financial targets. 2. Highlight areas of financial/process improvement in support of the business’ objectives for the Control Period. 3. Manage and co-ordinate the production and submission of the relevant reporting and analysis for the Network Development and Planning functions. 4. Manage the collection of key data from other functions and co-ordinate and consolidate the production of period end business review packs. Highlight any significant issues and trends with financial and other business results. 5. Develop the modelling and analysis of cost base. 6. Proactively challenge the management of financial and business risk and opportunities. 7. Manage the business planning process in delivering business objectives, including development of action plans, monitoring of progress and identification of corrective action. 8. Review and analyse actual results, forecasts and Business Plans and challenge anomalies and uncertainties which emerge from that analysis 9. Provide the technical expertise, on all financial issues, relating to the subject matter being analysed. 10. Act as the change manger for the introduction of new processes and procedures. Agree remit and success criteria of change projects with the relevant Executive Sponsors, Functional Directors and Programme Sponsors Detailed External Job Description Do you have..? · Full membership of a relevant professional body and demonstrable experience in a relevant financial or business discipline · Relevant post qualification experience · Cross functional finance experience (within at least 2 different finance disciplines) · Excellent analytical and modelling experience · Experience advising and working in conjunction with senior staff at Director and Board level. · Advanced Microsoft Excel (or equivalent spreadsheet package) and analytical skills · Advanced communication and presentation skills · Experience of working in a matrix management organisation (desirable) · Experience in business modelling and investment appraisal techniques (desirable). · Other relevant professional or academic qualifications (desirable) Are you..? · An excellent communicator with strong presentations skills. · Able to influence and persuade non-financial stakeholders of your strategies and plans. · Accustomed to presenting financial overviews to senior management and the business you support. · Detail driven with a keen analytical mind.
