We are looking a Functional Integration Systems Engineer for our Rolling Stock UK, facility based in Derby Your Role You will join our Systems Engineering team as a specialist in the functional aspects of the integrated train design. This includes the use of multiple disciplines i.e. Ordinary Train Control (e.g. relay logic), TCMS (software based data bus system) and third party procured systems such as Propulsion, Battery and Auxiliaries, Doors, Brakes, HVAC, Signalling, Smoke detection, Train Data Recorder, Lighting, De-icing system and TCMS (including diagnostics Key responsibilities and challenges * You will ensure the functional design of the integrated train (from its sub systems) meet the customer requirements and legislative standards. This will be done within requirements driven culture such that the functional design is fully validated to demonstrate compliance. * You will also manage the design of electrical schematics. This includes the design of relay logic (especially for the train critical functions) and managing electrical interfaces with suppliers equipment via the appropriate system engineer. * Within a project environment you will liaise effectively with the other engineering disciplines including project engineers, TCMS engineers and system engineers throughout the project lifecycle (bid concept to detailed design phase, manufacture and service operation). * You will ensure the train wide functional design is optimal. This shall be done taking into account aspects such as Cost (Life Cycle Cost), Lowest parts count, Manufacturability, Maintenance, Service Reliability and Safety. * Plan, manage and report on the areas of work for which responsibility is held. Qualifications * Ideally you will be qualified to Degree level or equivalent in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Preferably you will be a Chartered Engineer or in the process of becoming Chartered. * You will have in depth knowledge of train systems (hardware and software) and their interaction with each other is required. * You will have demonstrable technical leadership skills in the overall design of train wide functions and the responsibility in ensuring these comply with customer requirements and legislative standards. * Essential to this role is your technical expertise in optimising design solution for our trains. These areas are often complex in nature. The ability to break down these problems and then provide the integrated solutions is required. * This role is key in providing the functions of the train which are required by the customer to enable flawless operation of the trains on the associated railway. * Essential to this role is your ability to constant interaction with the other engineering disciplines to achieve design solutions that meets the requirements of the train with respect to train functions. The interaction with suppliers, customers and other BT functions will also be essential.
