Department Description Network Rail owns and operates the UK’s rail infrastructure, which includes some of the country’s busiest and biggest stations as well as a diverse range of properties. As part of our specialist fire safety team, you will be in a unique position enjoying true variety with the opportunity for nationwide involvement as you provide fire safety advice across the business. Brief Vacancy Description Provide specialist fire safety advice and support to line management. Assist in the development and delivery of effective and efficient arrangements that comply with relevant legislation, protect the company’s assets and minimise the impacts of fire on the company’s undertakings. Detailed External Job Description Reporting to Fire Safety Engineers, you will assist in the development and delivery of effective and efficient arrangements that minimise the fire risk to the company’s assets and undertakings, as you offer support to line managers. You will undertake fire safety risk assessments and inspections of the Network Rail property portfolio and the controlled infrastructure to identify and develop appropriate engineering controls for reducing the risk of fire. The role requires regular liaison with Fire Authorities, Local Authorities, Train Operating Companies and other agencies. Typical Working Day A typical working day could include one or more of the following activities: * You may be called on to review proposal for alterations of the Network Rail property portfolio including stations, signal boxes and control centres, maintenance delivery units and depots. * Undertake fire inspections at one of the 18 Network Rail Managed Stations giving advice and support to the station management team. * Review fire strategies and evacuation modelling reports produced by external fire consultants to support major development schemes. * Undertake fire safety risk assessments at business critical locations looking at life safety and business risk across the property portfolio liaising with operations and maintenance managers.
