Your role

As Engineering Manager you will be key member of the Project Core Team and be fully responsible for leading all technical aspects of the project, leading the Performance Regime with a shared responsibility for the successful execution of the project. The key aspects of this responsibility are the management of the Safety and Technical performance of the trains (in terms of Safety, Reliability, Availability and Maintainability), the provision of technical support to all key stake holders (customer, operator, operations), the management of trains technical changes and the maintenance specifications and fleet performance management. You will also lead Configuration management, Change Control and Technical Documentation management. The role carries a significant financial responsibility, through the Engineering budget management, Performance Regime including risks and has the responsibility to develop opportunities and continuous improvement through initiatives and best practice. There will be a requirement for On Call support.

Your Challenges
Lead the Engineering team (inc. line management of the fleet support engineers) in coordination with the wider BT engineering community (including Services and Passengers) and in compliance with the Bombardier Engineering System. Develop, publish and meet KPI in line with business requirements.

Monitor, manage, report on and improve the technical performance of the trains (ie: Safety, Reliability, Availability and Maintainability). Manage the fleet configuration (via the MMS i.e. Maximo).
Investigate technical failures to ensure that root causes are identified and mitigation / improvement actions are fully implemented.

Lead and implement improvement projects to reduce the downtime and life cycle costs of the trains whilst maintaining the required level of performance.

Ensure that all technical documentation (including design information, manuals, BLESS life cycle cost calculations) is managed and kept up to date (when changes are implemented)

Provide technical support both externally (to customer, operator and other key stake holders) and internally (to all the project team and to the operations). Ensure that engineering team remains highly motivated to deliver high standard of technical support that is cost - effective, innovative and enhances Bombardiers reputation.

Manage all engineering aspects of the change management process (including ensure that train modifications managed by Passengers are implemented in compliance with the agreed change management process)

Qualifications

Your Experience and Qualifications
Graduate calibre preferred - minimum of HNC/HND in an Engineering discipline essential
Understanding of the Railway Group Standards and other railway specific engineering standards.
Knowledge of the train operating companies.
Reliability management tools eg. FRACAS, Bombardier change management and product safety procedures, Electrostar train systems
Chartered Engineer or equivalent
Good level of IT knowledge and skills, especially Ms Office standard applications. Knowledge and experience with SAP and Maximo advantageous
Experience in using BT engineering IS Systems (inc. Slate, PDM, I Form) would be an advantage.
Familiar with PRO tools, PTD, CAPD and LEAN.
Good written and verbal communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Flexibility of location in the London area - this role will initially be based at New Cross Gate, moving to Ilford Seven Kings depot by August 2010,
Some UK travel required.
