Job Description
Tasks Perform scheduled and unscheduled repairs of an electrical nature to all passenger cars, locomotives, and baggage equipment in accordance with standard practices while adhereing to all AMTRAK, FRA and EPA requirements. Must be able to read and interpret electrical schematic diagrams and wiring blueprints. Must have a thorough knowledge of electrical systems of electric and diesel electric locomotives and passenger coaches. Must be able to troubleshoot electrical problems, cab signal problems, and make necessary repairs. Must have the knowledge and ability to perform load testing of locomotives. Must have basic knowledge of motors, generators, contactors, cab signal, head end power, and electrical control equipment. Trains new electricians in immediate duties, surroundings, and safety requirements. Other duties as assigned. Applicant must be able to perform the job duties and maintain current certifications for the job he/she is bidding. Work within the guidelines of the System Safety Program. Keep a clean and safe work area. Return company tools and materials. Work in and promote a teamwork enviroment in order to achieve a quality product. Adhere to Amtraks Standard of Excellence Policy. Positions designated as ‘Hours of Service’ require the applicant to produce a negative Federal pre-employment drug test prior to performing the job.
