Job Summary:
Provides Engineering support for lighting, electrical and control systems used on roadway machines to include (but not limited to) engines, hydraulics, air, and on-board processors. Establishes standards and specifications for components, new and rebuilt equipment, and field modifications for machines. Promotes Lean planning and Quality program initiatives.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
•Develop work specifications for machines rebuilt at Bryan Park Roadway Shop (BPRS) to include all electrical systems, microprocessor controllers and modifications.
•Justify work equipment modifications using cost/benefit analysis.
•Write modification instructions, and create prints and Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings.
•Develop and provide craft employees with modification application.
•Prototype modification applications and CAD drawings for pricing.
•Identify/procure tooling required to perform modifications.
•Audit modifications, standardizations, and equipment specifications.
•Track performance of modifications and validate economic returns.
•Work with CSX Purchasing and Material (P&M) and suppliers to improve quality, cost savings, and approval of alternate suppliers.
•Oversee quality assurance program and develop defined work practices.
•Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelors degree from an accredited institution required in Electrical Engineering
•2-11 months of experience required in Engineering, Heavy Equipment Operations, Microprocessor Controllers or Manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the above qualifications, the following is preferred:
•1 or more years of supervisory experience in Engineering, Heavy Equipment Operations, Microprocessor Controllers or Manufacturing
Knowledge and Skills:
•Knowledge of electrical drawing and/or schematics programs
•Project management skills
•Knowledge of electrical/electronic theory and application
•Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma methods to improve processes
•Microsoft Office skills
•Leadership skills to coach employee performance
•Ability to create, read, and understand design drawings, schematics and specifications
•Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization

Job Requirements:
•15% travel required.
•Wear protective equipment such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, work boots, safety vest, face shield and safety glasses.
•Work hours may vary in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek and various shift work.
•Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.
•The applicant selected for this position may be required to successfully complete a background check and physical including a drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.
Environmental Conditions:
•Work inside an office environment.
•Work outside in all weather conditions.
•Work with equipment that intensifies the heat factor.
•Work with hazardous materials on an occasional basis.
