Department & how it relates to the role

Network Rail’s Competence and Training organisation delivers an effective competence and development service in order to continuously improve safety, performance, engagement and esteem. Competence and Training strives to capture the routine business and forward plan emerging requirements to ensure Network Rail meets its operational requirements and workforce development remit, deliver the training needed to meet Network Rails Competency Framework Requirements, and invest in our people and resources to ensure quality is inherent from the start in our service and products.

About the role (External)

As a Customer Accounts Specialist, you will be expected to develop close, partnering relationships with key business leaders across Network Rail to help maximise the ‘value for money’ impact of Competence and Training. You will help to enable line managers to fulfil their responsibilities to their teams by identifying and prioritising areas for improvement and driving measurable workforce efficiency improvements.

You will act as a ‘customer agent’ by providing accurate information on customer needs and ensuring these are represented in the operational priorities and the longer term strategic plans of the Competence and Training organisation. You will promote Competence and Training across the business, actively sourcing ‘new business opportunities’ to build C&T’s suite of offerings and limit external agency spend.

• Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating an ability to understand customer needs, create a customer service ethos and negotiate win/win agreements?
• Expertise in building networks and partnerships with key business stakeholders?
• Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to produce detailed business plans, monitor their impact and then report back on the return on investment?

• Able to produce creative solutions to new business needs, considering both customer requirements and resource capabilities?
• Confident in delivering high level presentations to key decision makers throughout the business?
• Able to reconcile short term customer training needs with long term business objectives?
