Department & how it relates to the role

Network Rail’s Competence and Training organisation delivers an effective competence and development service in order to continuously improve safety, performance, engagement and esteem. Competence and Training strives to capture the routine business and forward plan emerging requirements to ensure Network Rail meets its operational requirements and workforce development remit, deliver the training needed to meet Network Rails Competency Framework Requirements, and invest in our people and resources to ensure quality is inherent from the start in our service and products.

About the role (External)

As Business Support Coordinator, your role will be to provide support to the National Training Managers and other cost centre holders in delivering consistent financial control, supplier management and reporting across Competence & Training, working closely with the Business Support Manager.

Key Accountabilities

1. Develop effective support systems to enable the Business Support Manager to manage and control change i.e. initiate process improvements, implement best practices, develop new customers etc.

2. Provide periodic support to Cost Centre Managers to generate effective and timely financial, qualitative and activity driven reporting. Demonstrate flexibility where necessary in providing timely management information as required.

3. Support National Training Managers (and other cost centre holders) in accurately managing and reporting on accruals (including communicating standardised process)

4. Support Cost Centre Managers in controlling and reporting their periodic committed expenditure with suppliers and proactively link into Finance to manage the end to end process.

5. Support the Business Support Manager in designing, developing and communicating updated and newly created processes. This includes producing data for input into periodic reports for MBR and Executive reports.

6. Maintain the standard documentation to be used when arranging to provide training to third parties and periodically prepare and process invoices for training supplied to third parties. Supporting local Training Centre Administrators in all purchasing activity.

7. Support the Business Support Manager in generating realistic business improvement suggestions to deliver efficiency targets. Support the regular review of resource development plans aimed at achieving cost effective training delivery i.e. the ‘Make versus Buy’ decision making processes.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

· Commercial awareness and negotiating skills
· Analytical and numeric skills, competent in the use of MS Office
· Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and controlled processes with a high level of accuracy
· Good interpersonal relationship building skills
· Good working knowledge of Network Rail’s finance and accounting systems

Desirable

· Educated to A Level standard
· Experience of working within a commercial environment
· Invoicing and credit management experience
