Job Description

Role Title: Business Analyst

Brief overview
of the role: A hands-on role assuming responsibility for analysing business processes/systems, determining requirements for development/improvement then adopting a structured, pragmatic approach to designing, driving and implementing change which delivers tangible business benefits.


Accountabilities


• Eliciting and defining business requirements for systems development/enhancement, establishing and validating real business needs
• Capturing and documenting high-level business requirements for change to effect business improvement
• Interpreting, analysing and managing business requirements throughout the project lifecycle
• Investigating, mapping, modellingand analysing current(‘as is’) business processes/systems
• Determining, documenting and mapping new, improved (‘to be’) business processes/systems
• Formulating functional specifications to provision the sign off business requirements
• Conducting gap analysis to determine the nature of changes required
• Formulating business cases to justify business change and process/systems improvement activities
• Undertakingdetailedbusiness process design and specification, engaging key stakeholders following a structured pragmatic approach
• Defining appropriate process/systems performance measures and metrics, and controls ensuring these are embedded in the overall solution to enable benefits realisation
• Coordinating the testing of new processes/systems, leading to formal business sign off
• Identifying opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate requisite activities, resulting in improved streamlined processes
• Identifying opportunities to increase business effectiveness, efficiency, productivity and performance,whilst reducingoverheads and costs
• Actively promoting and encouraging the adoption of ‘best practise’ business process across the organisation

• Candidate changes/improvementsidentified, with valid supporting business cases
• Process/systems improvements delivered, with demonstrable business benefits


Knowledge & key skills

Essential:

• Track record which evidencesdeliveringmeasurable business processimprovement, through simplification, standardisation and automation
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with Board/Senior Management level interaction and exposure
• Familiar with effecting business change/process improvement across geographically teams
• Experience of pragmatically applying structured business process modelling/mapping tools & techniques
• High-energy, enthusiastic self-starter capable of autonomous working
• Business focussed, process led, benefits driven, results orientated
• Strong organisational skills
• Excellent communication skills (verbal/written/presentational)
• Experience of working to a structured project management approach
• Strong influencing, facilitation and coaching skills
• Willing to adopt aflexible, hands-on, common-sense, ‘lead from the front’, ‘cando’ approach to ensure (and be accountable for) benefits realisation
• Prepared to travel to multiple sites within the UK as required
• Construction and/or utility services sector experience

Desirable:
• Graduate calibre
• Experience of working in complex, multi-stakeholder, multi-functional organisations/environments
