Job Description
Department Description This department is a new multi-disciplinary design team within the Investment Projects Buildings & Civils (IP B&C). Based in York this multi-disciplinary design team will provide a full design services for GRIP Stages 2-8 (RIBA Stages A to L) to projects on Network Rails extensive Operational Property Portfolio. Brief Vacancy Description This vacancy is for a lead Building Surveyor based in York who will lead a small multi-disciplinary design team of five responsible for the development of initial design proposals through to preparation of detailed design drawings. Detailed External Job Description The succesful candidate will provide cost effective building surveying and design consultancy service and solutions to internal and external clients and to develop and maintain design standards that meet company needs. To provide cost effective management of appointed multi-disciplinary design consultants to meet Network Rail objectives. The Key Accountabilities of the role are as follows; · Undertake and manage the required inspections and examinations of the operational property assets. Review reports submitted, making recommendations for repair and renewal works required. Report on tenant non-compliance on leases; carry out site inspections and asset condition assessments to enable identification and validation of asset condition and renewal proposals. · To prepare and develop concept, feasibility and detailed design proposals to meet business objectives. · To provide cost effective, fit for purpose and value for money building surveying and design service to internal and external clients ensuring designs are in accordance with efficiency targets. · Participate in the selection of a single option for further development. Prepare or monitor preparation of reports, papers etc as necessary. · Manage so that all projects designed by the Investment Projects Buidings Design Group are designed to the standards and specifications of Network Rail with design and construction contracts including reference to and are compliant with the appropriate Railway Group and Network Rail Company Standards and statutory requirements. · To prepare CAD/Hand drawings and develop concept, feasibility and design proposals to meet business objectives. · To proactively participate as a member of an integrated design and construction teams in the delivery of renewals including supporting the Construction Design and Management CDM Co-ordinator. · To liaise and consult with external authorities in order to secure smooth and successful consents and approvals Essential · HNC/HND in a relevant discipline · Experience of buildings maintenance/renewals within the rail industry or other multi-site property organisation · Design and presentational skills, including use of CAD · Thorough knowledge of statutory and rail industry requirements for building and construction works including the CDM Regulations, Building Regulations, Planning and Consents processes Desirable · Degree in relevant discipline · Membership of relevant professional institution (e.g. RICS, MIOB, ICE) · Knowledge of the possession regime and an understanding of the track access and station access contractual requirements · Experienced in use of NBS or other similar specification packages. · Previous experience working on heritage buildings including liaison with local planning authorities, English Heritage, CADW and Historic Scotland and CABE
