Position Title: Associate Claims Representative Department: Law/Claims Location: Washington, DC Posting: 90033269 INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL APPLICANTS SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Conduct prompt and thorough investigation of incidents which give rise to personal injury or property damage claims against the corporation. Assist employees and passengers in receiving competent medical care. Evaluate, negotiate and settle claims and lawsuits to assure fair and equitable disposition. Provide litigation support to Amtrak counsel and act as corporate representative before state and federal courts. Liaison with other Amtrak departments to ensure effective communication and thorough cooperation on claims related matters. EDUCATION: High school diploma EDUCATION (preferred): Baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience in related field WORK EXPERIENCE (must have): Prefer experience in investigation or related personal injury insurance work. Familiarity with medical terminology and railroad operations. Must be a team player, able to work under stress and maintain professional composure. Good computer skills. Word processing a must. Prefer experience with Windows XP and Microsoft Office. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must have personal automobile due to nature of investigative work. COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Good oral and written communication skills required. Must be able to deal fairly and effectively with a wide variety of people under the stress of a heavy workload. COMMENTS: Prior satisfactory job performance and attendance required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None. TRAVEL: 25%
