Job Description
Department & how it relates to the role To validate that the appropriate use of technologies are recommended and deployed into the production environment. To provide consultancy into new projects so that the concurrency is maintained and that all integration issues are considered and addressed, and to verify that there is ongoing availability of all infrastructure architecture components, which includes detailed design, build and delivering the infrastructure. About the role (External) Key Accountabilities 1. Identifies and plans upgrades that impact on any area of the systems infrastructure. 2. Responsible for the ratification of the maintenance and upgrades to the environment and the currency of software, hardware and standards. 3. Provide technical architecture and infrastructure consultancy to IM projects as required. 4. Review and quality check System Integrator proposals for their technical content in relation to IT infrastructure / architecture projects. 5. Confirm that the System Integrator’s non-production and Network Rail’s production environment mirror each other and are aligned. 6. Identifies opportunities for the implementation of technical improvements that add value to the business through achievement of better, faster, cheaper infrastructure. 7. Work in conjunction with approved suppliers to understand product road mapping and impact of end of life products to provide seamless integration into the environment. Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications Experience in designing and implementing enterprise IT network architecture solutions. Demonstrable experience with routing, switching, application delivery and security in a network architecture role. Experience in the migration from old to new and green field sites in the routing and switching environments. Involvement in the infrastructure and architecture of design all of the following -: Switching: TCP and UDP Protocols, Spanning, VLAN’s, Tree, dot1x, 802.1at and 802.1af. Routing: Routing Protocols, (BGP, OSPF, static), MPLS Security: Firewalls, IPS, Unified Access Control, Remote Access (SSLVPN and IPSec VPN) Application Delivery: WAN Acceleration, Local and Global Load Balancing Voice over IP/IPT: SIP and H323 IP Networking: IPv4 addressing Wireless and Wired Networking Good documentation skills Good communication skills Essential · Proficient in Operating Systems (namely MS Windows, Unix, Cisco IOS) · Proficient in Hardware platforms and peripheral technologies (namely Desktop, Servers, SAN) · Proficient in network technologies · Proficient in middleware · Proficient in messaging · Proficient in Performance and Capacity Planning · Proficient in databases · Familiar in programming languages · Familiar in configuration management · Familiar in Infrastructure upgrade planning Desirable · Good demonstrable experience of an Infrastructure Design background · MCSE · CCSE and CCIE · Websphere · WMQ
