Wensleydale railway launches Christmas services

 A HERITAGE railway will run train services on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, bosses have announced.

The Wensleydale Railway, which runs from Leeming Bar to Redmire, in the Yorkshire Dales, will run also run trains every day in between the two holidays.

Railway chairwoman Ruth Annison said: "Although many rail companies do not run trains on December 26, our train crews will be working as usual to ensure that people can get out to enjoy a day in Wensleydale. "There are good long-distance views up the dale from the train window in winter when the trees are bare of leaves."

There will also be guided walks every day from Boxing Day to January 2, weather permitting.

The walks, led by a team of volunteers, start at Leyburn station, at 10.30am and Redmire station, at 10.50am, when the 9.50am train from Leeming Bar arrives.

This train also stops at Bedale (9.56am) and Finghall (10.15am).

Mrs Annison said: "We very much hope that local people will help by telling their visitors about the train services and guided walks."

There is no need to book tickets in advance but walkers should wear suitable footwear and clothes for winter walking and bring a packed lunch and drinks. The last train back to Leeming Bar each day leaves Redmire at 3.50pm and Leyburn at 4.03pm.

Wensleydale Railway’s last Santa Special trains run from Leeming Bar on Christmas Eve.
