Selby rail commuters left stranded after power failure at Thorpe Willoughby

COMMUTERS were left stranded at Selby train station after a power failure at the level crossing at Thorpe Willoughby.

Up to 100 travellers were left without transport as various train operators cancelled or diverted trains.

A spokesman for Hull Trains said its 8.12am service from Hull to Selby was diverted to Goole, but otherwise its trains were unaffected.

But Northern Rail had to start its 6.41am Selby to Wakefield train from South Milford, while trains from Leeds to Selby and Manchester Victoria to Selby were also cancelled.

However, a spokesman said buses did replace services.

The Press was unable to contact First TransPennine about the problems at the station.
