London Overground To Part-Close For Three Months

London Overground To Part-close For Three Months - 23/12/2009

Major engineering works will force the closure of a substantial chunk of the London Overground network in the New Year.

The North London Line section, between Gospel Oak and Stratford, will shut down from February 20th to June 1st 2010, so that engineers can get to business unperturbed by the need to fix up the track for the Monday - Friday rush. Despairing commuters can take some solace from the fact that part of the work being done is to extend the platforms so that they can accomodate the four-car trains that TfL plans to introduce from 2011.

The gradual program of replacing the rolling stock with the shiny new models has been underway since the summer, but the real improvements in capacity will come when those extra carriages are bolted on and more frequent services are running. Still, those rail replacement buses are going to get mighty familiar in the meantime.
